This is an area with constant news. Discover what design trends will be present next year and get ready to be in front!
As well as the other areas of knowledge and creation, the design goes through subtle changes every year. New trends arise and burst for a period, and some may extend for several years.

With 2017 finished, forecasts are coming up for what will be high in 2018.

If these forecasts are true, we will know only in the course of the year. However, I have selected some that I consider the most promising.

Then, without further delay, come and discover what they are!

Vibrant colors
With the increasing amount of information available to people on the Internet, it is necessary that your content stand out from the others.

In 2018 this will continue to be a necessity!

One way to do that is by using bright , vibrant colors that draw the user’s attention.

However, you have to pay attention . As I explained here , the use of vibrant colors can cause visual fatigue , which leads people to look at the other side as soon as they see your content.

Try to balance the vibrant colors in a harmonious way, just as the company Spotify did with its new visual identity:

And for talking about colors, a recurring trend since Instagram completely changed his visual identity is the use of gradients . I think that in 2018 it will not be different.

The gradients used with vibrant colors can be the perfect combination for an attractive and eye-catching look for this year.

Typography and Lettering
The typography is also a recurring trend, but being quite changeable, never goes out of fashion.

As with the use of colors, the forecast for this 2018 is that these elements draw the attention of the user . Therefore, invest in large, thick and vibrant sources.

The most popular typography styles will probably be handwritten, 3D and geometric.

Forms and geometric lines
Geometric shapes are a trend that has been present for some time in design. I think it will also continue to be present in 2018.

The forecast for next year, however, will be an increase in the use of more “curved” lines, resulting in softer designs.

Simultaneously, in contrast to the well-defined geometric shapes, there was an increasing use of hand-made illustrations , which should remain strong by 2018.

Besides giving a more human side to the design, it allows to explore a more relaxed and friendly aspect.

Mix of styles
The illustrations are excellent and the photos too. Why not put the two together?

This is a trend that I think will be strong in this 2018: the mix of styles . Be it from the example already given, be it using photos and 3D elements or geometric shapes and artistic brushes: the possibilities are several.

This is an excellent way to innovate in the design and create something unique, original and that stands out from the others.

Double exposure
The double exposure is a photography technique that generates beautiful and impressive results, as well as making it possible to portray two photographs in a single image .

It’s a trend that became popular with movie posters and album covers. It is present some time ago and the forecast is to remain strong in 2018.

3D shapes
3D compositions draw attention since it became possible to make them digitally. Over the years, the technological advance we have today allows the creation of surreal images that, at the same time, are extremely photorealistic .

I think that in 2018 that will become a trend, since this year was the beginning of the popularized use of this technique. We have seen some companies migrating their logo to 3D and others using it as a showcase for products.

The use of 3D will possibly focus on two categories: colorful shapes and monochromatic designs .

As the description is already very explanatory, I will talk about the advantages of using these compositions.

Both make the product or object that is in focus stand out a lot. In the first, this is done by the contrast between an object and a neutral background, while in the second, the volume brought out by the play of light and shadow.

Negative space
The creative use of negative space makes it possible to create unusual shapes where there would be nothing . It is a trend that is not new, but promises to remain strong in 2018.

The negative space highlights the object that is the focus and directs the user’s attention to where it should look in the composition.

Animations are the cherry of the cake . They are not necessary, but they complement any composition. After all, a moving image calls much more attention than a static image .

As 2017 went down that road, I think it will be a trend in 2018.

An example that I really like is the Apple site , which incorporates quite unusual animations that generate an incredible result as you browse the web page.

Confessed, cinemagraphy is a term that was unknown to me until the beginning of this year. These compositions are characteristic of apparently static images with only one element or another in motion .

They are GIFs in which it is not clear when it is the beginning and the end, creating an eternal loop of a discrete movement.

Some designers prefer these compositions, since they tend to be more elegant and comfortable to look at than a common GIF.

As I talked about the subject of animations, they are small details that hold the user’s attention more in a moving image than a static image, and that makes that trend gain strength in 2018.

Forecasting trends for the future is never an easy task .

As the design is a very changeable area, we can only check if the forecasts written in this post were finalized or not, only throughout this year.

However, looking at how 2017 went and how we are walking this 2018, I feel confident to affirm these forecasts.

2018 will be, mainly, a dispute about how to make your content more attention than the competitor’s . I think that using the tips presented in the text you can go very well with the design trends.
